Ende der sechziger und Anfang der siebziger Jahre liefen die ersten Abenteuer mit Känguruh Skippy und dem 12jährigen Sonny Hammond im deutschen Fernsehen (siehe „Skippy, das Buschkänguruh“). Inzwischen ist Sonny Hammond 37 Jahre alt, verwitwet und alleinerziehender Vater der beiden zehnjährigen Zwillinge Jerry und Lou. Die Hammonds besitzen an der australischen Goldküste den großen Tierpark „Habitat“. Gemeinsam mit dem zahmen Känguruh Skippy erleben die Hammonds Abenteuer, bei denen Mensch und Tier wie Pech und Schwefel zusammenhalten.
